I spent all day Friday doing the assistant thing, and though it was a long day and quite hot out I’d like to think I learned something. Woke up at around 5 in the morning and after all was said and done, got to Hollywood/Miami around 8:30 and bummed around in the lab which was the decided meeting point for another few hours. There were 5-6 photographers and 3 models who were all just looking to try something new and have a good time, while quite possibly augmenting their portfolio of work. The photographer for Cape Coral I assisted worked with primarily with natural light so my role was battling with the wind with a reflector while I watched how he set-up the shot and so forth. Overall I think it was a good experience just being there and seeing how each photographer worked and what equipment yielded what result and so forth. There was one specific photographer using a Leica R series digital camera in combination with a couple strobe set-ups which produced some absolutely amazing work with some great vibrant colors. Another guy was using a Rebel XT body which he replaced the in so that he could take digital infrared photographs which were also absolutely amazing in their own right. Just being able to be in a photography setting again did wonders and gave me a bit of a boost that I needed to really try and get my act together in the photo world.

It’s part time and the work is somewhat scarce, but I’ve got a position as a photographer’s assistant! I definitley won’t be doing it for the pay, but it’s gonna give me a great chance to actually get back into the field and actually work towards a career in photography. The key thing I’ll get out of this is experience and connections, 2 things which are holding me back now, so this will be a perfect fit. First shoot is on wednesday shooting some architecture shots of a home for a Real Estate company and I can’t wait to get back around some cameras and equipment again! And it feels good to know I’ll actually be doing something productive, now if only that part time position at Apple would pan out I’d bet set financially for my loans/etc. and set creatively for my career/piece of mind.
Ever since I saw the trailer for the new show on NBC this fall called Heroes, I’ve been ridiculously excited for it, and the constant commercials hyping it has only added to my excitement. The pilot has been leaked, I just checked it out, and loved the entire thing. It was a little slow and took some time to get into, but it really started to pick up as it moved along leading to a cliffhanger at the end. The only thing that bothers about it is one specific character whose superpower I don’t quite understand yet and seems to have a final destination part 8 type thing going on, but I’m still interested to see she turns out. I do hope it gets picked up for an entire season, as it looks like alot of cool stuff could go down throughout the season; That, and I’m not excited about the prospect of watching 6 episodes of a show and never finding out how it ends like I did with Heist last season. Both are NBC shows so I’m sorta worried they may do the same thing with Heroes and put it in a bad time slot like opposite Lost and American Idol and then pull it when it gets low ratings, but with the way they’re marketing it I’m hoping otherwise. One thing it’s got going for it though is the whole one long story line rather than the usual story wrapped in itself per show like law and order, which hopefully will allow a huge epic story arc.

I really don’t understand why people think it’s cool to hate Soccer. Just because you didn’t watch the world cup and are completely removed from the entire rest of the world does not make me view you in a better light.

I spent the last few hours updating the look of things around here, trying to make it a little more brighter and open. Obviously I used the same masthead I made for my page on myspace, trying to tie it all together somewhat. Still got a few bugs here and there and some odd pages that need to be adjusted, but it’s up and going for the most part. A main reason I changed things around is I’m hoping to get my gallery setup better integrated into my layout, so when you click the snapshots page to the right the photos show up where the text you’re reading right now is. Hopefully I can get that all worked out, but I’m tired of staring at code for now so I’ll leave that for another day, most likely tommorrow. (After the Germany-Italy game of course, it looks to be a good one!)
